I’ve been contemplating a new means of raising funds, although I’m not sure how well it would go over. So, I thought I’d throw it out there for you to think about, as well as leave your comments on the topic.
My idea is to sell photographs of the rescued animals in various styles. They would be originals, copyrighted, in black and white, color, or sepia, in various sizes, and the proceeds would be applied to the rescue. Too boot, they’d be COOL! 😀 (In my humble opinion)
I am currently researching ways to display them and collect the charges, in the hopes of finding a means that is suiting to both the buyer and the seller (and exhibits the animals in the proper realm of beauty, of course). I had them out for viewing/sale at Petmania, and several did look…but of course we had the Tsunami sweep through and ruin the moment. I had compliments on them, but perhaps they were simply being nice. I have such fun with photography, and would love to do it as a hobby (rather, I do it as a hobby, but amateurishly). I’ve even researched classes and cameras. I would love to photograph animals and help spread the word about rescue, shelters, proper care, etc…I think it’d be very exciting!
However, I want to be realistic, so please feel free to contribute your thoughts. Here is an example of a few of my photos to give you an idea (click on the photo for a larger view). I have to say when printed, they look even better:
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH I have soooo many more! Over 300 in this particular file, actually. 😀 These don’t even begin to touch the number I’ve collected…and some are…er…um…WAY COOL!! (I humbly speak) Many are of an abstract nature, I suppose, but perhaps there are those out there that might be interested? Gosh, I wish I had room to show you more…or all of them…but I need to do it correctly in a program to get the full effect. What do you think? Would they fly…or flop? I look forward to hearing your opinion.
Meanwhile, while the critters have enjoyed snoring throughout the evening, I must finally find some sleep myself. It’s necessary, of course, to do everything I can to not disturb them, or they will yell, kick or snort at me. After all…they need their beauty rest, right? Because, as we all know, they rarely get a chance to rest….
Uh-oh…I’ve just been shot the evil eye for moving my chair. Off I tippy toe to bed! Have a lovely evening everyone! (Or day, in case you read this during normal hours).
Have you thought about a calendar with the photos? I keep getting “free” stuff in the mail for HSUS…I just don’t feel right about keeping it unless I send them a donation, which they so graciously include in the mailing! NISA (the Samoyed rescue) does an annual Sammie calendar. You are so clever, you would put cute, funny captions to your photos. HUMMM…who would get to be the “centerfold” each year???? Maybe a local book store, Petco, PetSmart, independent pet store, or newstand would take them to sell for Miss Alli’s. Great holiday gifts!!!…for next year. It’s not too early to start working on it. Look into Snapfish.com. or Kodak.com….my friend does a calendar every year for her family with pictures of her sons in seasonal shots. I don’t know the cost, but it’s worth checking out. Alphagraphics also does inexpensive printing. Maybe even get them to do all or part of it as a donation. Write offs are always a good thing and they would be helping a terrific cause!!! I elaborate…I’ll keep thinking.
Great idea.
The pictures are awesome
