This has been what seems like a whirlwind of a week…or I think we’re still on the same week?  I’m really not sure because I’m so tired I can barely see straight…or curvy, or backwards, or any of that stuff. 😀

Let me step back to Tuesday and a trip to the vet (shocking, I know).  Sadly, Rue had a seizure in the wee hours of Monday evening/Tuesday morning, and although she came out of it quickly, and surprisingly, with no trouble, I took her in the next day.  Thursday evening/Friday morning, she had another, so I assumed it meant we had to put her an phenobarbital, an anti-seizure medication…which we did.  Most likely she’ll respond well to this, but at her age there are, of course, concerns.  However, we will monitor her closely and hope for the best.  She is doing great, takes the meds like a pro (in cheese), and she continues to run and play and enjoy herself.

We’ve built a chair for her that is called a “Bailey Chair.”  This was invented for dogs with Megaesophagus by a family who actually had a dog cursed with the disease.  The idea is that the food will make it to the stomach for digestion easier by the dog sitting vertically.  So, Rue’s “Uncle” Jonathan built the chair, and we are now tweaking the size since I felt it was best to measure a bit larger and work down vs. build it too small to begin with…okay, so there’s lots of tweaking since I rounded up (too much), but we’re getting there.  This is the makeshift sizing….

As you can tell, she was not happy…she made it clear to us that we were acting cruel and inappropriately by putting her in the chair.

Wednesday consisted of the puppies becoming official dogs by getting their final round of shots and their rabies vaccine…big girls now!

Friday involved my hitting the doctor for a back check, and another trip with Rue to the veterinarian to get her started on the medication.  It also included me working frantically to get help for the 9yr old Collie mix I mentioned in my previous post.  I was so upset about her and so stressed, and I was praying for help for her.  I emailed the shelter to ask her status, as Friday was to be her last day, and they responded with “She’s been rescued!”  I was elated!!!  She was such a pretty girl with such a sweet face…I was completely thrilled! Justice had been served for this little girl, and she was out of the pound.  Yipee!!!!

Then I got a follow up email from them a few minutes later:

I have a really sweet 35 lb older terrier mix…very sweet with everyone, needs a place to live her last few months or however long…she is adorable…can you help with her?

Then I received these photos with the subject line of “Pretty Please??”

What’s a girl to do??

She’s much cuter in person.

She’s nothing but bones, has an adorable little underbite, and a head tilt.  I’ll be surprised if she weighs 35lbs because she seems light as a feather! She was covered in fleas, but the shelter staff was nice enough to give her a bath and a Capstar to clean her up.  She slept all the way home and through the night, and seems to enjoy her crate.

I’ve named her Poppy, and she’s as pretty as a flower.  She’s mild mannered, gentle and as darling as she can be.  Her little tooth sticks out of the side of her mouth, her hair goes perfectly everywhere, and she looks at you with fabulous expression. She also jumps a bit when she doesn’t expect your touch. 🙁 Who knows how old she is or what she’s been through, but fortunately, her tail still wags.

A vet trip will let us know the cause for the head tilt…perhaps an inner ear problem or Vestibular Disease…doc will be able to tell. Hopefully it is something that will be treatable…but if not, she’s still as adorable as ever.

We’ll fatten her up, get her back in shape and see if we can’t figure out her age.  She’s really too cute for words.  Say a little prayer that she’s heartworm negative and that her head tilt will end up being something that will not be problematic for her.

Are you ready for ultra cute??? 😀
